Vik Masterplan

Vík í Mýrdal is home to some of the country’s most beautiful natural wonders, and the town is an important link on the ring road. A large tourist industry has developed there in recent years, providing opportunities for development and growth in the area, both for residents and tourists.

The aim of the proposal is to increase the quality of the residential area with improved access to services, shops and sheltered outdoor areas, as well as good connections to the existing settlement, while also providing untouched nature. This creates a vibrant community that encourages people to stay longer and settle permanently.
The small-scale settlement pattern echoes the town’s existing settlement pattern and provides an opportunity for development in selected locations with green areas that then merge with untouched nature.

The green areas are located so that they enjoy sun and shelter from the prevailing wind direction, and there are various types of recreation for residents and visitors, such as playgrounds, sports areas, vegetable gardens, etc. This encourages togetherness between residents and supports a healthy lifestyle and improved health.
