A courtyard building, composed of gabled volumes, gives the intimacy and protection of a space for children, while appearing as a series of small houses, providing the project with a home-like scale.
All dimensions and proportions are thought for children and are cradled in natural light to create bright, warm spaces.
Followed by a small entrance chamber are the cloak rooms, before the indoor play area that behaves as a ‘winter garden’, an area that connects all spaces, that opens up to the play area towards north, becoming a greater play space when weather conditions don’t allow to play outside.
Facing east and the exterior playing grounds are located the four classrooms, composed by learning, playing and dining area at ground level, and sleeping at mezzanine.
The terrace space in between classrooms and exterior fields works as an extension of classrooms where kids can play ‘outside’ protected from weather . This transition corridor performs as a thermal buffer, creating a progressive transition between inside and outside climate.
