Porto Affordable Housing

The project establishes a new accessible‑rent housing complex in Lordelo do Ouro, conceived to respond precisely to the site’s constraints while forming a sustainable and integrated urban centrality for both residents and the wider city. It addresses Porto’s pressing need for housing aimed at those who fall outside social housing yet cannot compete within the increasingly globalized real‑estate market.

The proposal is structured around three buildings, designed as a cohesive architectural ensemble that merges traditional references with contemporary spatial innovation. Its approach reflects current shifts in collective living — evolving family structures, shared domestic arrangements, and the growing overlap between domestic space and urban life.

Within a formally disciplined façade composition, the project introduces flexible typologies that support diverse, informal modes of inhabiting. A central ambition is to offer urban dwellers rare exterior amenities: balconies, terraces, gardens, and cultivation areas, fostering community and a sense of belonging. The terraced volumetry is not merely symbolic but actively shapes these outdoor spaces, ensuring that every dwelling benefits from meaningful exterior areas.

Social and psychological well‑being guide the design of roofs, terraces, and green zones, reinforcing environmental quality and supporting sustainable urban living.
