The Health Center of Santa Maria de Azoia envisages in its conception to respond to the valences and constraints of its location as its adaptation to the proposed preliminary program, priming for the valorization of the territory through a new integrated, accessible and sustainable health center, fostering new relations and spaces of public activity.
A new garden plaza receives the users at first arrival, but doubles its role as a public space for the remaining inhabitants, making the Health Center a new Social Center.
The result is an architectural object of reference, not for its volumetric or plastic eccentricity, but for the definition of spaces and moments created by its configuration. More than a building that responds to its inherent needs, we sought to define an urban catalytic element by its position in the territory and by the definition of the spaces of its surroundings, a unifying object that
allows maximizing the local experience.
The interior spatial organization develops in a circular way on two floors, through eight interconnected volumes around a central courtyard that serves as an oasis to the building, intending to integrate natural relations with its interior space.
Although its relatively complex program, the design aims to be obvious in the programmatic articulation of the spaces, inherent to its volumetric simplicity, almost perceptible by its form to which volume corresponds each space.
